Before you assume, take the time to watch it, and I guarantee it’ll be worth your time.

I was a bit dubious about this Netflix limited series, as it came across to me as an egotistical trip down Bill Gates’ memory lane, however, I was mistaken. I made the mistake many people make, which was to categorise something before I knew what it was all about. Yes, it’s about Bill’s brain, but it’s also about so much more.

What I liked about Inside Bill’s Brain is rather than Netflix interviewing people he knew/knows, playing old footage and making presumptions, it delves a whole lot deeper (although, those things do happen). The interviewer spends time with Bill, walks alongside him whilst in his routine, raises key points and questions as well as challenging him. It’s also about Bill Gates’ personal life, how he was raised, his parents, relationships, what he was like in school, the utterly mind boggling achievements whilst still being in education, how he built Microsoft, and as his current ventures, which includes eradicating the Poliovirus across the world.

Most people would say that Bill Gates is a smart man that built a company that simply took off like a space shuttle in the dawn or age of computers. Microsoft came along at a perfect time. It set a precedent, and although a few other companies followed, it was Bill Gates and Paul Allen that had taken things to a whole other level. Yet, if it wasn’t computers that Bill Gates worked on, it could have been anything else. What I mean by that is due to his innate instinct to feed himself knowledge, with a brain that’s hard wired in the way it was/is, he could have easily gone on to achieve incredible things, no matter what area of interest. What you discover about Bill is that not only is he a mathematical genius that adores coding, programming and all things computer related, he’s also a sponge that retains knowledge like very, very few people can. I put Bill Gates in the ‘ultra rare’ category, because the way his brain operates is highly unusual and astounding all at the same time.

There’s much to learn about Inside Bill’s Brain on Netflix, and I found a lot to take away from it all. I, personally, am at the stage of my life where business ideas are as prevalent as they have ever been in my own brain and among my friends, so after watching someone as incredible as Bill Gates take huge steps towards his goal, it made me think about the steps towards mine. I may not be achieving most of the things on my ‘purpose list’ (work or activities that give me purpose) at this current moment in time, that’s not to say with consistent hard work, determination, perseverance, focus and having the right people around me, I can’t, and when someone as inspirational as Bill Gates comes along, telling you about nearly everything that happened to him along the way, it only encourages me further, so perhaps it may do the same for you.
